George S. “Stanley” Schaeffer, 91, formerly of Birdsboro, passed away in the early morning hours Monday, December 25, 2017, of natural causes in the Reading Hospital. Born November 24, 1926, in Bernville, he was a son of the late Ray C. & Jennie (nee’ Schock) Schaeffer. A veteran of WWII having served in the Army, he last worked for General Polymeric Corp., Reading. George was quick for strike up a conversation with anyone and share memories. He also was a fan of modified racing at the former Reading Fairgrounds. He is survived by his daughters: Beverly J. Schaeffer, Wyomissing, and Sherry L. Klick, Womelsdorf; his grandsons: Kris & Chad Klick; his sister: Grace Degler; and by his friend: June Wagner; and by a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings: Catherine Schaeffer, Gloria Fidler, Luther Schaeffer, Clinton Schaeffer, Robert Schaeffer, and John Schaeffer; his nephew: Eugene Schaeffer; and by his late wife: Edith V. (nee’ Gilbert) Schaeffer. Memorial services will be Friday, December 29, 2017, at 4 PM, from the Mull Funeral Home, 27 E. High St., Womelsdorf, with the Rev. June E. Bair, officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family following the service.
