Jean E. Lutz, age 89, formerly of Spring Twp. passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Linden Village in Lebanon after battling Parkinson's Disease.
She was the widow of George W. Lutz who had passed away in May 2014.
Born on Christmas Day 1933, she was raised on the Essig farm in Blue Marsh, Lower Heidelberg Twp. Jean (Jeannie, Dolly) was the baby of nine children born to the late Webster and Helen (Schaeffer) Essig.
She was a 1951 graduate of Wilson High School. A snow blizzard on their wedding day did not stop George and Jean from being married on January 16, 1954.
An avid baseball fan, Jean was a Friday night, season-ticket holder to the Reading Phillies for 30 years. She enjoyed travelling, camping and fishing with family and friends. A talented seamstress, she made countless items for family and friends including coats, capes, business suits, curtains, purses, children's clothes, prom and bridesmaid dresses, and her daughters' bridal gowns. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and her beautiful yard had been featured in the Reading newspaper. A lifetime member of Bern Reformed U.C.C., she also held the supervisor position at Olive Leaf Chapel in Fritztown where she taught Sunday School on a regular basis until 2015. She always had winged or four-legged companions ranging from chickens, parakeets and a peacock to cats, dogs, and a nanny goat. She adored her grandchildren and was always there to lend child-rearing support to her daughters. Parkinson's stole the woman her family knew, but her family will remember and dearly miss the woman she was.
She is survived by her four daughters, Kathy A. Seaman (wife of Cory), Diane C. Lutz-Antonio, Sheryl J. Lutz-Snyder (wife of Clifford), and Audra H. Donato (wife of Joseph); a brother, Richard (Tex) Essig; a sister, Fern Holzman; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 23, 2023 at 10:00am at Bern Reformed U.C.C., 3196 Bernville Rd., Leesport, PA 19533.
Mull Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Womelsdorf is handling arrangements.
