Marcia Moyer Obituary

Marcia Moyer of Birdsboro, Pa., passed away on  Dec. 16, 2021 at Phoebe Berks Health Care Center in Wernersville, Pa..  She was 66 years young.  The first daughter of Donald and Virginia Moyer, she was born in Des Moines, Iowa but moved with her parents and older brother to Tenafly, N.J. when she was a toddler.  During her time there, she made some lifelong friends and in 1974 graduated from Tenafly High School.  She chose to attend Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pa. because of its small size and picturesque surroundings.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Psychology while there and formed more lifelong friendships.

Marcia began her teaching career at West Chester Friends School.  She worked enthusiastically and lovingly to instill a passion for learning into her students and continued her own education at West Chester University.  She earned her Master of Arts degree in Education in 1989. She went on to teach in the Downingtown and Wyomissing School Districts, making her mark in her fun-loving way in both places and continuing to make faithful friendships.  Her passion for learning inspired her to attend the University of Pennsylvania where she earned her Doctor of Education degree in 1997.  She retired as a Reading Specialist in 2011.

Marcia leaves behind her loving husband, James Zollers and his son, Christopher Zollers, as well as her sisters, Suzanne Cummins (Jim) and Lisa Fravel, and her brother, Roger Moyer, and sister-in-law, Marilyn Moyer.  Also mourning her loss are her nieces and nephews, Daniel Moyer (Lana), Nicholas Cummins (Anne), Kathryn Eltzroth (Trailand) and Joseph Fravel. Marcia was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, David Moyer.

Marcia loved spending time in Ocean City, N.J., during her summer breaks from school and searching for the best ice cream parlors.  She delighted in crafting needlepoint creations and sewing quilts, gifting her friends and family with her beautiful handiwork.  At Christmas time she was famous for sharing many types of cookies and peanut brittle and at Easter time she relished making dozens and dozens of cas carones (confetti-filled eggs) and handing them out. She loved to dress up in costumes, especially at school, and always made sure everyone had a Dr. Seuss hat to wear on Read Across America Day.  Long walks on the beach or through the woods were a favorite pastime, especially with her beloved dog, Dudley.

Marcia would love for us all to remember her by having a party celebrating her life.  We will do just that in the spring of 2022, hoping it will be safer to gather at that time.  In the meantime, please honor Marcia by being a faithful, loving and loyal friend and nurturing a passion to learn and constantly discover new things. And of course, enjoy a scoop of ice cream in her honor!  Please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association in her name.
